March 20, 2025. The first day of Spring, the Vernal Equinox when as Algernon Charles Swinburne observed "blossom by blossom, the Spring begins". One cannot help but enjoy with a lightness of being the first signs of spring. I look forward each March to daffodill stems in the local stores and bring them home where they are bright dashes of sunlight in colored and clear glasses in my kitchen. It is practically a yearly ritual — to enjoy seeing them and sometimes to paint them.

My painting March 2023 Harbingers is included in this exhibition. I think of daffodils as Harbingers — heralding spring and this painting of daffodil stems is of the the time, moments before opening when “. . . then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils.”

My watercolor painting, Charita and Gatita, was selected for the 55th International Exhibition of the California Watercolor Association. It pictures a shared moment between a woman her her orange cat and references a favorite artist, Cecilia Beaux. As Albert Einstein said “I love cats because I enjoy my home; and little by little, they become its visible soul.”

Monotypes
In the summer of 2024 I spent time in Aix-en-Provence as Artist-in-Residence at the Leo Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing. While I was there I painted some plates for Watercolor Monotypes to be handprinted when I was back home. I was pleased with the results — always, at least for me unknown and even unexpected — exciting. Two of them were juried into shows, Moi Dans L'Atelier in the Maryland Federation of Art, "Small Wonders" 2024 exhibition and Miroir D'Atelier in the Salmagundi Club "Unique Impressions" exhibition focusing on the Monotype.
